Passes by 7 Votes, 8 Yeas from RINO's

Posted by – 6/26/09

Well, 9 8 RINO’s have made it pretty clear today that the GOP is in lockstep with the Democrats. Neither are a friend to fiscal conservatism, the proper role of Government, nor the scientific method.

Here’s list of the 8 GOP turncoats who sold this country down the drain with a thinly disguised central planning bill:

  • Mary Bono Mack (CA)
  • Michael Castle (DE)
  • Mark Kirk (IL)
  • Leonard Lance (NJ)
  • Frank LoBiondo (NJ)
  • John McHugh (NY)
  • Dave Reichert (WA)
  • Chris Smith (NJ)

Obama is a downright liar in saying that 95% of Americans will not see “one penny” of their taxes increased. He takes a very narrow view of “taxes” in this regard because it fits the narrative, it’s far more convenient. By “taxes” here, he clearly means only Federal income taxes. When he’s talking about the hard-working, middle class’s tax burden, he includes other non-income tax withholdings like Social Security and Medicare. It’s not that I don’t think these aren’t undue, burdensome taxes on individuals, but I think we should see some consistency here. And if those are taxes, then surely we should see as a tax an increase of $1,300 per household passed to them from the higher cost of energy that this bill introduces. Only a few years in, that’s exactly what households in Britain are enjoying.

Though we were promised the most transparent, open Congress and Administration in history, we’ve seen nearly the exact opposite. One could hardly argue the point given that we’ve seen sweeping legislation after sweeping legislation come through at the eleventh hour unread, undebated, and without presentation to Americans. It’s clear why: these are horrible bills that cannot stand up under the sunshine of public scrutiny. I’m getting tired of every piece of garbage legislation that comes through with Obama’s declaration of “fierce moral urgency” attached to it. Guess what? The world isn’t simply going to collapse if Congress takes the time to read the legislation it passes. TARP. The Stimulus. The Car Bailout. When will Americans stand up and shout, “NO! We’re not going to be bullied into this anymore! The fear-mongering stops NOW!” Legislation passed without deliberation by our representatives is fraud, plain and simple.

And this laundry list of fraud and abuses goes before we’ve even discussed this point: the whole Climate Change agenda is based on a completely ridiculous premise! It’s bad science! Carbon Dioxide is a pollutant? Does anyone really believe this? If so, I kindly ask you to save the planet: stop breathing now. We need to stop letting our politicians set the scientific agenda based on a wildly popular, wholly fallacious movie starring the most boring narrator in the world as Fear-monger #1.

Not only is carbon dioxide never been substantially tied to the cause of warming, it may be a sign of a healthier, more moderate climate. As in, effect, not cause. You see, the conclusions drawn from the statistically inaccurate hockeystick graph make an argument  based on the correlation proves causation fallacy. Al Gore and politically-invested scientists took a look at that graph and concluded that because carbon dioxide levels rose with the temperature, they must have caused it!!! Too bad that’s a terrible argument. We see that all the chatter about global warming climate change is really far more religious and far less scientific. We’re not allowed to debate it, apparently. The debate is over. There’s a consensus, I swear. Now just vote on it and shut up.

William Happer, Another Denier!

Posted by – 2/2/09

Meet William Happer. He’s one of the latest official additions to the list of dissenters in a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee report. He was the former director of the Office of Energy Research in the U.S. Department of Energy before V.P. Gore fired him for not toeing the party line, and he is the current Cyrus Fogg Brackett Professor of Physics at Princeton. He’s a Denier.

He’s a scientist who rightly understands that correlation does not equal causation, an elementary fallacy that Al Gore does not yet grasp.

He’s a former director of an organization responsible for doling out non-weapons research grants from a budget of $3 billion, and he saw the writing on the wall in the late 80′s and early 90′s with the “give me money and I’ll get the answer you want” global warming crowd.

He’s watched the analysis of average global temperatures decline over the last decade, all the while fighting the droning claims of global warming coming from less than upright scientists and self-aggrandizing politicians.

He’s noted the impossibility for climate change models to even accurately predict past weather conditions, much less predict future conditions. Some major periods of history cannot even be accounted for given current models:

Happer cited an ice age at the time of the American Revolution, when Londoners skated on the Thames, and warm periods during the Middle Ages, when settlers were able to farm southern portions of Greenland, as evidence of naturally occurring fluctuations that undermine the case for anthropogenic influence.

He publicly notes the ridiculousness of claiming that something every one of us breathes out second-by-second could be polluting the earth, especially given that plants are our direct counterpart in this exchange.

The response from the global warming climate change alarmist crowd? We have a lot of evidence you’re not allowed to pick apart or argue with. We’ve got a very popular thing going on (haven’t you noticed the consensus?). So you just read our convincing report and tell us why we’re wrong. No, really:

Oppenheimer, director of the Wilson School’s Program in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy [and the lead author of the fourth report of the IPCC], stressed that the preponderance of evidence and majority of expert opinion points to a strong anthropogenic influence on rising global temperatures, noting that he advises Happer to read the IPCC’s report and publish a scientific report detailing his objections to its findings.

A response to criticism of the report’s claims is a challenge to read the report and publish his objections? Is this Oppenheimer even paying attention?

I am eager for the day we can look back on this age of scientific/religious environmental alarmism and smile at the futility and lunacy of the whole mess. My hope is that we do not oppress too many, spend too much wastefully, or drag too many whole nations down on the road to enlightenment.

The Goracle and His Prophecies

Finally, a journalist who understands that Global Warming Climate Change should be covered like the religion that it is: oracles, prophets, appeasing the gods and all.

Legendary Environmentalist: Most Green Stuff "A Gigantic Scam"

Posted by – 1/24/09

Most of the “green” stuff is verging on a gigantic scam. Carbon trading, with its huge government subsidies, is just what finance and industry wanted. It’s not going to do a damn thing about climate change, but it’ll make a lot of money for a lot of people and postpone the moment of reckoning. I am not against renewable energy, but to spoil all the decent countryside in the UK with wind farms is driving me mad. It’s absolutely unnecessary, and it takes 2500 square kilometres to produce a gigawatt – that’s an awful lot of countryside.

It’s from the same fella whose work on CFCs brought about a global CFC ban. Here’s the whole interview.

My NES Bill under an Obama Administration

Posted by – 11/3/08

I know last time I looked at my electric bill, I thought, “You know what? This isn’t enough. I’m really not paying enough for this.”

“[U]nder my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” And no, that’s not taken out of context.

The change we need? Meh. And who cares about poor people anyway?

I am not a Democrat

Posted by – 8/15/08

If the Democrats in Congress actually lived up to the manifesto they published back in ’06, I’d probably be a proud Democrat. The promises put forth in the document are exactly those which a governing body that represents the interests of the people should uphold.

Democrats believe that America needs – and Americans deserve – a New Direction that provides security, prosperity, and opportunity for all.

Absolutely. I agree 100%. I love to hear my representatives declare that they work for us, the American people. Not for the special interests. Not only for the people of San Francisco who want to project their eco-religion on the rest of us, but for America as a whole.

Too many Americans are paying a heavy price for those wrong choices: record costs for energy…

(I should note, of course, that this was written back when the Democrats were about to take control of Congress in ’06. Since then, gas prices rose from $2.19 to $4.11, an increase of an incredible 87.7%! Congressional Approval is at an all-time low, the national debt has increased over 14%, and the Dems themselves will tell you that we’re in the middle of a recession. They’re wrong, but they’ll still admit to it. Which is astounding.)

With integrity, civility and fiscal discipline, our New Direction for America will use commonsense principles to address the aspirations and fulfill the hopes and dreams of all Americans. That is our promise to the American people.

Apparently they will not use commonsense principles, which would include dropping the Federal moratorium on oil exploration. Nor will they be civil about it.

Check out page 24 of the manifesto:

Bills should generally come to the floor under a procedure that allows open, full, and fair debate consisting of a full amendment process that grants the Minority the right to offer its alternatives, including a substitute.

And yet, despite the GOP’s demands for the energy bill to come to a vote, Pelosi won’t allow it. What makes it all the more astounding is that she won’t allow a vote to be taken on a bill that the Dems would almost undoubtably crush! Why? Because of the misguided notion that carbon is a poison. If global warming is man-made and carbon dioxide is the primary cause, then we must get rid of it! And burning fossil fuels releases loads of carbon dioxide! So we must stop!

This is “fact”, decided upon by the dirt people of San Francisco and their expatriates, and forced down the throat of the American people by Pelosi and her wildly out-of-touch Congress.

This whole eco-religion is centered around the preposterous idea that us humans are fully capable of throwing the Earth’s equilibrium off kilter, putting Earth’s ecological and climatological state outside the bounds of its own recovery. It’s the peak of arrogance, to say the least. It violates Occam’s razor by making the assumption that the Earth could not possibly have a naturally fluctuating climate of as much as 1 or 2 degrees in either direction, and it flies in the face of actual science, from the likes of scientists who haven’t been coerced or threatened and whose work hasn’t been manipulated:

CO2 is a proxy for global temperature, and attempting to control global temperatures by regulating anthropogenic CO2 is unfounded, futile, and wasteful.

Whoops. In much the same way that proving a Jesus that was never raised from the dead would rock Christianity to its core, the absence of “carbon as a pollutant” really puts the whole man-made global warming ideology into serious question. Calm, clear-headed scientists are beginning to come forward with long-standing evidence that disproves man-made global warming. So close your eyes and ears, and chant to yourself as loud as you want Gorites. It doesn’t make truth go away.

If real Democrats are represented by Pelosi and her Congress’s track record, then Democrats are not reasonable. They are not commonsensical. They are not logical. They are neither fair, open-minded, nor realistic. And I am not a Democrat.

Here's to your "consensus"

Posted by – 7/18/08

It looks like the American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists and by no means a Big Oil-financed, right-wing group, appears to be reversing it’s previously “incontrovertible” stance on Man Made Global Warming.

Turns out, as common sense would also lead you to believe, the Earth’s recent warming trend might simply be the natural result of the Sun’s extra activity over the last 70 years. If you don’t believe me, try answering this question: Exactly how is human activity and its production of CO2 on Earth causing the ice caps on Mars to melt?

Of course, if you’ll read the article that I just linked to, you’ll see that this scientist’s conclusions aren’t well received.

“His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,” said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England’s Oxford University.

Hmm. And of course, mainstream scientific opinion is always correct. The Earth is flat, you know. (More on Mars here.)

Laugh of the Day

Posted by – 7/10/08

Something just occurred to me while reading a friend’s facebook page. There is a kind of person that actually exists who is both an agnostic atheist and a global warming alarmist. Hilarious. This person can’t bring himself to believe in God because there isn’t definitive proof, but yesterday seemed really warm, didn’t it?

Al Gore: The Carbon Footprint Sasquatch

Posted by – 6/21/08

Apparently, even after his green-ovation, the former Vice President and author of a global warming gloom-and-doom masterpiece uses 6,728kWh more energy every month than the average American household uses in an entire year. (Me? I used 713kWh last month.) More figures here, and a comment from that post:

He’s built his recent career on making Americans feel guilty about their lifestyles, and he’s using 20x more than those he wants to make feel guilty.

And he’s still flying around in that Gulfstream…

We’re comparing kWh here, not his monthly bill (which, by the by, is now a staggering $16,533), so his spokeswoman’s excuse that he’s involved in Nashville’s Green Power Switch Program–which costs more per kWh but lets the customer use some renewable sources–doesn’t really hold muster.

It really makes you question their motives. Why are they pushing this so hard if they don’t walk the walk? Or is that just for us normal people to do? Is this what’s behind the whole Cap and Trade mess? Would America really be for it if they knew that they would suddenly be forced to participating a new rigged market–the “quarter of a trillion dollar” [@ 3:55] emissions economy as well? Hmm… more governmental control. Awesome. (More on Cap and Trade here.) Of course, any intelligent business man will take advantage of such a system. If you’re not at the negotiating table, you’re on the menu, says Richard Sandor, the CEO of the Chicago Climate Exchange.

The real problem is giving them a system to game, and the fault for that lies squarely at the feet of politicians who buy into the junk-science arguments of “global warming” alarmists without any consideration of the massive economic costs Americans will bear in a Quixotic quest to stop climate change.  It reminds me of a club I once heard of: “The Stop Continental Drift Society”, and it makes as much sense.

Honestly, this is why I couldn’t give a real rip about what Gore or any other celebrity has to say about the issue. Dave Letterman and his racing team are included too. If you folks were really concerned that our behavior was causing the ultimate meltdown of Earth, your behavior would reflect it. If you truly believe your jumping on a table will break the table, you don’t tell everyone else to get off the table whilst you enjoy your continuing table dance–amusing though it might be.
